Inspiring Canadians as we work
towards a greener future.
H2CanFly is a pan-Canadian initiative to drive innovation, economic growth, and environmental stewardship through the development of sustainable aviation technologies for commercial and defence applications.
H2CanFly is dedicated to accelerating the advancement of market-ready solutions to support the decarbonization of Canada’s energy and transportation sectors, increasing global competitiveness, and attracting international investment and talent.
Backed by eight strategic investment partners and a worldwide partnership network, H2CanFly is bringing together key stakeholders from industry, academia, and government to execute a comprehensive national strategy to achieve critical environmental and economic objectives for Canada.

Working together to build safe sustainable, and equitable aviation solutions for a cleaner world
Aviation is the most challenging industry to de-carbonize, and sector growth is anticipated to out-pace typical incremental efficiency improvements. Clean sheet designs take time, and the technologies that enable these designs must be advanced now to achieve our net-zero objectives by 2050
H2CanFly has launched a multi-phase, multi-objective technical program to drive the advancement of non-conventional hydrogen & electric propulsion technologies, requisite airport infrastructure, and essential certification pathways. This includes:
Developing technologies that benefit aviation and other difficult to decarbonize transportation sectors (rail, marine, and long-haul /heavy-duty trucking)
Expanding hydrogen refueling and charging infrastructure across Canada via airport networks through the concept of Airport Energy Hubs.
Informing codes, standards, and regulations, to expedite the certification and safe operation of new clean energy and aviation technologies.
Creating a knowledge base for college & university curriculum development, to establish a skilled labour pool to support clean energy & transportation sectors in Canada.
To build national flight research platforms and capabilities that are accessible to and inclusive of all parts of the Canadian ecosystem
To accelerate the commercialization of sustainable aviation technologies towards a “net-zero” future
To build national flight research platforms and capabilities that are accessible to and inclusive of all parts of the Canadian ecosystem

Removing technical, facility, infrastructure, certification, and operational barriers to clean technology advancement, adoption, and commercialization
Defining a practical roadmap to achieve policy objectives through strategic technology, facility, and infrastructure development
Facilitating access to funding, collaborative assets, facilities, and flight demonstration platforms to support aviation and nonaviation technology developers
Creating a national program to focus innovation and maximize Canada’s Research & Technology investment impact
